Algeria
  • once a success story 1980-1990
  • a parallel decline: a conflict loaded country, a disunited administration, an inconstant coaching situation and a constant slump resultwise
  • during the qualification matches their game did not look bad but they had problems converting the created chances
  • a chance might be: the two group favorites South Africa and DR Congo are not 100% sure to have found their form
  • overview: Algeria among the best of Africa
  • the list of players  (includes age and where do they play analysis)

Algerias troubled times are not over yet. Anyway they have accomplished to qualify for the finals. Algerias achievements all stem from the 1980-1990 period. Since then there has been a decline in Algerian football that has went parallel to the countries inner problems. Also massive adminstration problems in football are still taking place and even the coaching situation is constantly changing.

Many wish them an emotianal boost as Algerian football cannot be as bad as it has recently performed. In the qualification they had some partly good but unlucky performances against Tunisia, when they played a good looking game but failed to convert that into goals. In the end they have been lucky they have qualified.

Drawn into a group which three other Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde candidates their fate is quite unpredictable. Favorites to advance they are not.

Conspicious: the Algerian success story has been limited to one players generation.
