the
list of players (includes age and where do they play
analysis)
Gabon is
one of the smaller football nations of Africa. The country is not as poor
as many surrounding it and so it produces better teams than most of the
problem ridden countries that from their possibilities can be put at least
on the same footballing level like Tanzania, Mozambique, Kenya, Sudan etc.
It might also be an
outstanding player generation, but although the 1996 team performed exceptionally
well at the Nations Cup (out in the quarter finals after penalties), the
individual players have not made a career equal to their West African counterparts.
Anyway as well players as administration will come into Ghana(/Nigeria)
with the relatively fresh experience of Nations Cup participations 1994
and 1996.
At the (many) preperation
matches they did not look as a team who could be placed on the same level
like the big ones but they showed some inspired moments when they were
able to give some big names some scares. It seems unlikely they will advance
but they have surprise potential on a good day, especially because they
could turn up as a well cooperating team right from the first minute while
others may need a match or two to find themselves.
