Burkina
Faso payed the price for inexperience after almost reaping the benefits
of great young talent. The West Africans fielded the youngest team of the
tournament, had one foot in the quarter finals in a dramatic finale of
the group only to lose it against an almost similar young Ghanaian side.
Leading 1:0 in the
final game they got nervous and after a huge defensive error conceded two
goals in the 90th minute and injury time. So they were left with nothing
but one point and two goals from the three matches against the group favorites
and the knowledge that they had almost closed the gap to the quality teams
which had competed for World Cup places only months ago.
With two players (Madi
and Sanou) of the Under 17 World Cup last September regularly in the team
and many more not much older, among them promising striker Dagano, the
Burkinabé have a team for the future and the experience they have
gathered at the last Nations Cup and this one will once turn out to be
valuable provided that continuity will give this squad a chance to grow. |
