Senegal
  • sporadically successful in the past
  • after years without success qwith a team that seems to have found new strength
  • a good qualification campaign and good warm up results
  • lack of tournament experience
  • surprise potential: opponents form unclear
  • overview: Senegal among the best of Africa
  • the list of players  (includes age and where do they play analysis)

Senegal is one of those former French West African colonies that has only produced winning sides sporadically. After a good result in 1990, the National team has constantly done worse and just now has been turning around things. Not only they have quite convincingly qualified, they also have had good preperation results.

It should be the first major tournament for most players if not all anyway as Senegal was last qualified in 1994. So, much depends on the tournament acclimatisation whether Senegal can continue their surprise story.

Their opponents are in a questionable form and it seems possiible, Senegal might surprise them and benefit from the draw into a relatively weaker group.

Only sporadically Senegal has emerged among the top four, but has usually at least been among the second rank of African football nations (#11-#20).
