did not disappoint but eventually were without chance of reaching the quarter
finals. To reach more they had needed to convert their chances better.
A draw against Nigeria
or a win against Liberia had not been out of reach but a clinical finishing
had been needed for this.
The games against
Liberia and Mali showed the vulnerability of the Algerian defence and Algeria
turned out to be the team to concede the most goals in the group
matches.
Only a last minute
strike by defender Kraouche saved them from being eliminated already after
the second match against Liberia, a game they mainly dominated. In the
last match they were overrolled by the enthusiasm of the hosts Mali where
in the opening encounter they had played quite a smart match against Nigeria
only to lose by a single goal.
