*rating average: how Germanies' most competent football magazine 'kicker' rated the player each match (appearances under 30 minutes were not rated). The best rating is 1, the worst is 6. Other examples from Bundesliga: Thomas Hässler  Jürgen Kohler  Lothar Matthäus
**index is a value made of the number of mnatches and the ratings. A suspension has a slight negative effect but did not change any rank here. 10 is a higher index than 9.

 special case:
Marc Arnold-midfield-Hertha BSC Berlin-26 matches/2goals-avg.3.3-index:7.9
with this value he was number 3.
The special case. He 'became' South African during the second half of the season on the wish of South African coach Philipp Troussier. But whether he will ever play for South Africa or might turn up in a German team the future must show.
The other way round:
Sean Dundee-forward-Karlsruher SC-24matches/3 goals-avg.4.5-index:5.3
Dundee became 'German' but then was never used for the National team. He could still play for South Africa but he confirmed he won't. This does not necessarily mean too much.

Teams with no African fielded: Bayer Leverkusen, VfL Wolfsburg, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Arminia Bielefeld.
Teams with more than one African fielded: Borussia Dortmund, Munich 1860, Karlsruher SC, 2 each, but none of those 'tandems' reached 34 matches aggregated. (Apart from the Arnold 'case' - He and Tchami together add up for 44 matches)

rank 13-18 is the talent section: all of them will be seen again. Only Tankos career seems a bit doomed because of successive injuries.
rank 11-12 are players who had their debut in the second half and became team regulars while rank 9-10 are struggeling for a regular spot in the starting eleven.
rank 1-8 were regulars.

Top rated African Of the 2nd division:
Amadou, def, Benin, Cottbus
also:
Beya (mf), Ben Slimane (fw), Tunisia, Freiburg (promoted)
Akunnor, mf, Ghana, Fortuna Köln (will play Bundesliga for Wolfsburg 98/99)
