Before the match:
Both teams have been perfect
against all other teams in the group so far (Tunisia with the better goal
difference and one match more played) and have played an exciting 2:2 in
the first match so that this encounter might have the key role in deciding
the outcome of the group.
1st half:
- Tunisia in all white,
Côte d'Ivoire in green/orange/white shirts, green shorts and stockings
-('2) Tunisia with the expected
blitz start, Kanzari storms down the left hand side, centers, and #4 Gabsi
jumps into his perfect cross, takking it directly but misses the goal by
about a meter. He crushes against the goalpost and has to get treated for
more than a minute
-('6) first corner for Côte
d'Ivoire
-('9) unnecessary corner
for Tunisia and in the second attempt a cross finds Trabelsi in prominent
pposition - only his header is much to weak to threaten the Ivorian goal
-Côte d'Ivoire
look quite good, but up to here Tunisia play so agressive that the Ivorians
are in trouble to breath
-('13) Tunisia: Kanzari
is trying to get a penalty, whe feeling touched by a defenders hand he
jumps and dives - the reward: a yellow card for him
-attack after attack
rolls towards the Ivorian goal, the build up attempts by the West Africans
are suffocated by immediate pressing
-('17) Tunisia: free kick
from the left hand corner of the penalty area: Kanzari fires directly
and the keeper tips it over the bar
-('17) the corner flies
in and Gabsi heads it against the goalpost
-('18) Tunisia: Jaziri in
good position stopped by an offside call
-Tunisia will not be
able to go that pace for 90 minutes
-('21) Tunisia: another
corner finds Gabsi and his header is fisted from the line after a spectacular
reaction by the Ivorian keeper. He had been lucky the short range header
came quite on the middle of the goal
-('27) after afoul by an
Ivorian defender players push and shove, El Ouaer is out of is goal and
right in the middle of it. The referee ignores the situation and only has
eyes for the injured player and his medical treatment - so he does
not have to show any yellow cards...
-('30) very good defensive
work: an Ivorian defender deprives Jaziri of the ball by putting his body
on between
-('32) Côte d'Ivoire:
free kick from the right hand side and a very rare dangerous situation
when the cross which has flown over the entire defence is headed back into
the midlle
-Côte d'Ivoire now
has more space in midfield and is using it
-('34) through ball on
Bakayoko who escapes his defender, curves around El Ouaer and scores with
style - 0:1
-('35) Tunisia catch Côte
d'Ivoire celebrating and the Ivorians are lucky to escape
-(36) Bakayoko and Aruna
Dindane scare the Tunisian defence by their skills
-('38) Tunisia: again Gabsi
is ably to get an undisputed header off after a corner, this time it is
really harmless
-('39) Côte d'Ivoire:
Trabelsi is deprived of the ball in midfield and Bakayoko, sent by Aruna,
has three attempts but cannot get the ball past El Ouaer
-Tunisia is paying for
the high pace now, they try to get free kicks now
-('42) Tunisia: a dangerous
attack, a Sellimi cross, a header which bounces off a defender for a corner,
is it the chest? is it the arm? the Tunisians want penalty but the referee
says no.
-('44) mismatch in the Tunisian
defence, Bakayoko sends #15 Kalou? who curves around El Ouaer, falls over
him, but the referee remains consequent and denies what looks like a penalty
-('injury time) Tunisia:
another controversial scene on the other side - a difficult job for the
ref today
halftime 0:1
2nd half:
- Tunisia have substituted
#3 Trabelsi and #4 Gabsi (#10 and #6 are in)
-('50) the Ivorian defence
(and defensive midfield) looks a bit disorganised and Tunisia score by
a Jaziri header - 1:1
-('54)Tunisia have gained
confidence and cause a lot of scare among the Ivorian defenders by high
pace attacking again
-('55) Côte d'Ivoire:
#12 Keita, replaces Aruna Dindane
-('56) Côte d'Ivoire
with a counter attack and El Ouaer saves a diagonal shot for a corner
-('65) long flying ball
on Baya who is stopped by the keeper and a defender
-('66) both teams with fast
counter-attacks stopped by good defence
-('67) Sellimi 'works out'
the penalty he was trying for several times in wrestling matches, this
one seems doubtful:
-('68) Sellimi tries
himself - the keeper saves the low shot
-('69) Côte d'Ivoire:
El Ouaer is the winner in a one against one situation after Bakayoko has
been broken through
-('71) Tunisia: #10 shoots
wide, a minute late Baya cannot convert a promising cross
-('72) Côte d'Ivoire:
stopped by El Ouaer who intercepts a ball
-('77) Côte d'Ivoire:
Keita manages to beat two defenders on the wing but his centereed ball
does not find his three well positioned teammates in front of the goal
-Tunisians have tried
to save their forces in the second half and play more a counter attacking
style
-('79) Côte d'Ivoire:
an Ivorian breaks through on the left wing, but again a miserable rossspoils
the fine effort - a lck of practised patterns?
-at the moment the Tunisians
seem more in a hurry than the Ivorians, though the result should suit them
more
-('85) both with half chances
-('86) Ali Zirouni who has
come on as a substitute tests the keeper by a low diagonal shot
-('87) an Ivorian defender
is missing for injury treatment and a Tunisian corner causes another dangerous
situation
-('88)
Sellimi pushes an Ivorian direct into the face in front of the referee,
first he does not react, after consultation with the assistant he shows
both players the red card, something more must have taken place before
-there should be some
time added after some injury time out and this interruption before and
after the red cards
-('injury time) match is
over after only 2 minutes injury time
final score 1:1
A fair result in a good
game. This leaves Tunisia in the better position with only one away game
left and the better goal difference. |
