GROUP 3, week
6:
June 17, 1715 GMT Tunisia
- Kenya 4:1 (final) *Tunisia qualified
Before:
What had looked like the
most clear group has become the possibly most exciting with a complicated
scenario after Gabon has beaten Morocco 1:0 at home yesterday.
no guarantuee, but the following
is most likely true (if the usual tie breakers have not been changed):
(in question is f.e. whether
when Tunisia win 3:2 the direct comparison counts against Gabon as assumed
here)
Tunisia qualifiy when... |

-Tunisia win by a two goal
margin or higher

-Kenya win |
Kenyas preperations have been
marred by arguments between the coach and the federation which he accused
of miserable preperations. Tunisia has to play without veteran captain
keeper El Ouaer who is out with a back injury. Both teams have German coaches.
Tunisia and Kenya have the
advantage over Gabon that they know the score of the other game. The matches
strangely have been allowed to be playerd at two different dates.
1st half:
-(because of several parallel
matches some sction might be missing)
-('7) a first opportunity
for Kenya - dangerous shot but wide
-('9) Tunisians had begun
a bit slower than usual but now apply some pressure on the Kenyan goal
-the Tunisian attack which
uses to overrun opponents in the first 15 minutes appears to lack some
inspiration
-('18) therefore Kenya run
some rare but then quick and good looking attacks
-('22) longe range free
kick Kenya, wide
-('23) Zitouni in goood
position for a header but the cross has been very high and diffiicult to
calculate, so his header becomes much too soft
-('33)
after a foul Kenya #2 sees a second yellow card - it looks like a harsh
decision (both yellow cards) - Kenya are down to 10
-('35) Ali Zitouni turns
to the goal and fires from 17 meters, the ball hits the goalpost and clashes
into the net - 1:0
-the Kenyans attack with
10 against 11, they have now other choice than play man against man in
the back:
-('44) a Tunisian counter,
two against two, Zitouni crosses and a second player (Jaziri?) makes a
diving header, the ball goes into the corner - 2:0
-('45) cross from the
left,. Jaziri header which is not on the goal gets deflected by a defender
into the goal - 3:0
halftime 3:0
the result does not reflect
the full first half story: until the red card Kenya had been cancelling
out Tunisia, even with realistic hopes of scoring. Now it is hard to imagine
they will have the moral to fight back or at least to provide some hope
for Gabon. Tunisia did not look well but have been helped by the turn of
events.
2nd half:
-('59) huge opportunity
for Tunisia: two players miss a dangerous cross from the left after a corner
-the Kenyans keep trying
to attack but they are in a bad position
-('62) Tunisia: #4 header
wide
-('63) Kenya: #10 dribbles
through on the right hand side and connects with a player in the middle
who scores from short range - 3:1
-('64) Tunisia answer
with a fast attack, Zitouni centers and a defender unluckily makes an own
goal with his thigh - 4:1
-the Tunisians cannot
complain about the run of events
-('72) a cross finds Jaziri
all free, he takes his time stops the ball with his chest and fires from
short range - against the outside of the goalpost
-('85) Kenya keeper saves
against Zitouni after he had been broken through
-('90) Tunisia waste an
opportuinity with defenders outnumbered
-('injury time) Kenyans
don't do better
final score 4:1
the Kenyan blossom had been
too fragile to survive the red card and Zitouni double blow after half
an hour. Tunisia were showing a new face: instead of running over the opponents
and wasting dozen of chances the hosts exploited the opportunities effectively
