Tunisia
Tunsia travelled
home very satisfied with what the team had reached. With the fourth place
the ambitious North Africans seem to have established themselves among
the African elite.
After the clubs had become
very successful throughout the 90's in the African club competitions, the
national team has now finished runners-up 1996, reached the World Cup 1998
and the fourth place at the Nations Cup 2000. A remarkable success for
the smart Tunisian players who play in a good number at home.
Anyway the level of champions
Cameroon was clearly too high for them. The semi-final saw the end of the
road for the Tunisians.
But how close success and
failure are neighboured can be made visible in the following fact:
Had Morocco lost only 1:2
against Nigeria and not 0:2, Tunisia would have had a disappointing Nations
Cup instead of this success and probably it would not have been the Moroccan
coach to have become fired immediately... |
