Ghana
Ghana were an
expected? disappointment. A co-favorite before the tournament they were
lucky not to been thrown out in the preliminary round already. Thanks to
the Ivorian waste of points against Togo and the totally superior Ivorians
could not score the third goal they needed in the direct encounter, Ghana
advanced to the quarter finals where they were shut out by a very solid
South African squad.
This tournement was to provide
the answer to the question whether the promising generation that had been
so impressive at youth level would be able to transfer their successes
to the adult level and the answer at the moment would be no.
Also the provocative question
by The Shot preview whether there would
be a bug in the Ghanaian style of play that would limit them to a low goal
average, was answered by the co-shosts with only three goals in four matches.
What speaks for this thesis
is that certain key players did not really disappoint. Kuffour was fighting,
Otto Addo was creating some excitement.
But in the end remained
the impression that three of the four opponents Ghana had played had looked
stronger. |
