Congo
  • quite talented team from a small country with historic background: they did it once before...
  • most difficult group to get drawn into - better stay home right away?
  • nothing is impossible - matches have to be played first...
  • overview: Congo among the best of Africa
  • the list of players  (includes age and where do they play analysis)

Tough luck, being drawn in such a group with three World Cup participiants as opponents, one of them title favorites and hosts.
Congo is only a small country but once before has produced an extraordinary team: 1972 they won the Nations Cup and finished fourth 1974.

Their qualification is no surprise: Already in the world cup qualification for France 98 they had eliminated Côte d'Ivoire and had threatened South Africa for the spot among the African five.

Their task seems hopeless in this group but they will be prepared for it. And playing them will be a very inconvinient task for the other three. A task that might decide who will adavance. Even a sensation seems not totally impossible though unlikely:
Depending on the results of the other matches a team can advance with 4 or even 3 points, and, not enough, it is even possible that points become distributed in a away that a team with only 2 points advances.

Theory, of course, as it is also possible to be send home with 6...

The small Congo, twin state to the big brother on the other side of the same name river, has brought out one outstanding team in the early 70's. The last time they have qualified for the African Cup Of Nations finals was in 1992 when they reached the quarter-finals.
