ASEC Abidjan secured relatively
meaningless second place in its group with the 0:0 draw at St.Louisienne.
The theoretical chance before the match (if Espérance loses at home
and ASEC wins by about 10 goals) had not been realistic anyway.
Though not reaching the finals
and the World Club championships (where they would have been the attraction
for sure), the youngsters have achieved surprising results, among them
a 1:0 defeat of the invincible dream team of Espérance.
In between they also appeared
as the Côte d'Ivoire Olympic team and accomplished a 1:1 away aginst
Tunisia and a 4:1 at home against Morocco, and so dominating even at this
level older opponents.
